Our Teachers

  • Jenny Carlson

    I’m Jenny Carlson, the owner and director of High Street Studios.  I have taught dance to all ages for over twenty years, most recently as the director of Ipswich Moving Company School of Dance. I trained at the Imperial Academy of Dance in Connecticut and Emerson College, receiving a BFA in Dance.

    My dance career includes performances with Flipside Dance Theatre, Fresh Squeezed Dance, Fallen Flight Project, Julie Pike Edmond, Julie Ince Thompson, and Adrienne Mincz, and I taught Aerial Dance at Perry Mansfield in Colorado with Janet Craft. I have performed and choreographed both aerial and modern dances for two decades with Ipswich Moving Company. The Boston Globe described me as "a beautifully lyrical and articulate dancer, who moves with a lush fluidity."

  • Angelina Benitez

    started her training eighteen years ago at the Dance Studio of Wakefield.   She continued her training at Salem State University where she received a B.A. in both Modern/Contemporary Dance and Spanish World, Language, and Culture.  Her performance experience includes ensemble work such as opening for BoSoma’s The Dinner Table: Vignettes of Betrayal, performing in Salem State University’s Dance Ensemble’s concerts, and Repertory Dance Theatre’s semi-annual concerts.  She is honored that her choreography at Salem State has earned her a Presidential Arts Scholarship and a Creativity Award in Dance. Her summer performances include the Salem Arts Festival, the Beverly Arts Festival, and the Festival of Us, You, We, and Them.  Angelina has enjoyed the opportunities she has had to teach dance and theatre locally at the YMCA, Enchanted Dance Academy, Lynnfield Community Schools, and Salem Theatre Company.

  • Elaine Hamill

    began playing piano at 7 years old. She played organ at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Falmouth, MA through her high school years. At the University of Lowell, she majored in Music Education with piano as her major instrument, studying with Inge Lindblad, and graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1978. She has continued to play piano and organ at churches and schools through the years, accompanying school choruses and church choirs of all ages, as well as many musicals. She has also played piano for Waldorf Eurhythmy classes and accompanied Jenny’s ballet classes for 12 years.

    Elaine is married to Michael Hamill and mother of 2 adult daughters, Louise and Laura. Laura danced modern during her high school years. She is also a dog trainer and competitor, training her own dogs and her student's dogs to championship levels in many dog sports. She is an AKC Obedience trial judge. 

  • Ali Hoerzer

    is a New England Native. Newer to the dance instructor scene, Ali started her teaching career in the beginning of 2019 at The Cure Studios in Salisbury, MA. While teaching at The Cure, she taught WERQ, independent choreography, and Feminine Feels, which were all classes that were aimed at inviting movement into the body to express ourselves and love our bodies for what they are capable of. Ali truly believes that dance is an expression of the body that should not be limited to a certain "type" of person and strives to make her classes as inclusive and diverse as possible. She always brings a vibrant and contagious energy to each of her classes and will make you want to join in with her. 

    While dance has always been a passion of hers, Ali has spent most of her time in the wellness world as a participant in dance classes ranging from ballet to hip hop and heavily involved in sports. Wellness is a vital part of her life and she is so grateful to share that passion now. Now that she has found her way back to the dance floor and reignited her passion for movement, she knows that this is only the beginning of a lifelong journey. 

  • Brian Pereira

    graduated from Dean College where he earned a B.A in Theater Arts. Brian currently serves as the resident director/choreographer for the award winning Ipswich Middle School Theatre Company, as well as choreographer for Ipswich High School Theatre Company and Footlights Repertory Theatre in Swansea, MA. Originally from the southern coast of Massachusetts, Brian’s repertoire encompasses a diverse selection of musical theatre styles including A Chorus Line, Peter Pan, Grease, Mary Poppins, Anything Goes, and many others. As a freelance professional actor, Brian has been contracted with countless theaters throughout the greater New England area. His most recent credits include A-Rab in New Bedford Festival Theatre’s production of West Side Story, and Woof in HAIR at New Repertory Theatre in Watertown, MA.

    Brian believes in providing students the tools to achieve their fullest potential. He strives to establish an accepting environment where students can be free to express themselves without limitations.

  • Jeff Jean Phillipe

    is one of New England’s premier Hip-Hop dancers, educators and choreographers. While pursuing his artistry, Jeff felt compelled to create a family oriented group to travel, perform and grow with. In 2012, Jeff took this aspiration and gave it life by founding, directing, and choreographing for the internationally touring company, The Expressive Movement.

    Jeff’s high-energy and self-evolving classes strongly focuses on Hip-Hop technique and Contemporary elements inspired by Gaga movement; the Gaga technique is the influence for a style which Jeff coined, “TempHOPical,”  the fusion of contemporary, hip hop and lyrical. As an innovator, Jeff also began developing "Kimpada," a ballroom/partner dance related to and inspired by other Caribbean and Latin styles like Bachata, Salsa, Pasada, Kizomba, Lindy-hop, and Swing. Jeff continues to teach classes at studios, workshops, conventions and colleges across the US and internationally. In addition to teaching, he often is invited to judge at competitions, such as Nexstar and Step Up to Dance. 

    Jeff's passion is not restricted to any specific type of dance, feeding his overall fascination with movement. Jeff’s dance experience includes studying with America’s top, original, Hip- Hop teachers, including Super Dave, Jamar Hopkins, Brian “Footwork” Green and Henry Link. Jeff has trained in styles including hip hop, dancehall, break-dancing, Chicago footwork, house, popping, locking, whacking, Afro-house, Krump, ballet and contemporary. Jeff's performance career includes working with numerous Boston based dance companies, appearances in commercials (such as Twix, Skippy Peanut Butter, Nestle Inc., Nerf and iTunes) and Television shows (SYTYCD season 12, top 30). Other career highlights include The Nutcracker and Hairspray, and back-up dancer for Ryan Lewis, Macklemore, and Jillian Jensen.

  • Tabitha Rodger

    is from Andover MA, began her training at the Andover School of Ballet, and continued her training in the Jeannette Neill Dance Studio’s Boston Youth Moves program. Tabitha received her BFA in Modern Dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. There she had the pleasure of performing works by Bob Fosse, Louis Johnson, Merrian Soto, and Brian Sanders, among others. She was also a member of the first college group to perform Martha Graham’s “Panorama” within a Graham Company program. She was a part of the university’s Choreography Emphasis Program and received the Dance Faculty Recognition Award for Excellence in Dance. Tabitha has attended dance workshops and festivals including Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Windhover Spreads Its Wings, and The Limon Summer Workshop. Tabitha has been a member of the Windhover Dance Company in Rockport, MA performing works by Doris Humphrey. She has also performed with Dušan Týnek Dance Theater, and spent 3 years as a soloist with Urbanity Dance. Tabitha currently dances with Deadfall Dance, Ipswich Moving Company, and Sokolow Now. She is also a Certified Yoga Teacher. 

  • Molly Tupper

    (she/her) is a dance maker, performer, and educator. She grew up dancing at Hamilton-Wenham School of Dance, and continued her training at Smith College with a major in Dance and minor in Education & Child Studies. Through the Five College Dance Department she had many opportunities to perform, working with choreographers including Barbie Diewald, Jennifer Nugent, Rowan Salem, and Candice Salyers. Molly’s solo choreography has been shown at venues including Salem Arts Festival, MAGMA, the School of Contemporary Dance & Thought, and she is a regular choreographer for the Youth Dance Ensemble at High Street Studios. Recent performance collaborations include work with Jenny Carlson and Sarah Slifer Swift. Molly teaches ballet, modern dance, creative movement and choreography to all ages. Her teaching philosophy honors traditional dance techniques, incorporates contemporary trends and seeks to create a welcoming and accessible space for all dancers. Molly is currently a MSW candidate at Boston College School of Social Work.

  • Miranda Lawson

    is a performer, choreographer and teacher based in the Greater Boston area. She recently earned her BA in Dance and Psychology from Mount Holyoke College, where she was recognized with awards in choreographic excellence and leadership through social justice work. While at Mount Holyoke, Miranda performed in works by Shakia Barron, Barbie Diewald, Chloe London, Jenna Riegel and in TU Dance’s “One” restaged by Kaitlin Bell. Miranda has trained at Bates Dance Festival, was the recipient of the Leadership Scholarship from American Dance Festival, interned for Boston University’s REACH Summer Dance program, as well as performed and presented her own work at the American College Dance Association Conference. Miranda was a choreographic resident through the Urbanity X Residency program for the 2022 season and is now a company dancer with Urbanity. She also performs with Kia the Key & Company and Phunk Phenomenon Urban Dance Theater. She has performed at American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival and Jacob’s Pillow.

  • Becky Jo Roland

    Becky Jo Roland (she/her/hers) is a co-director of Theater Arts at Wakefield Memorial High School in Wakefield, MA. She currently holds a BFA in Theater Performance and a BA in Modern Dance, and is working feverishly to complete her last semester of the MA/MAT English graduate program at Salem State University. When she's not directing/choreographing/costume designing/coaching/teaching, most of the time she can be found reading in her car or taking long walks with audiobooks playing in her ears. She is excited to get her first studio teaching opportunity from High St Studios!

  • Kate Zelkowitz

    Kate Zelkowitz is an Ipswich local, performer, choreographer, and writer. She has over ten years of dance training in jazz, modern, and ballet, eight of which were at Ipswich Moving Company School of Dance. She is honored to have learned from many of High Street Studios’ wonderful instructors, like Jenny Carlson, Angie Benitez, Tabitha Rodger, and more. While dancing with Ipswich Moving Company, Kate performed in the Youth Dance Ensemble and honed her choreographic skills. She also enjoyed years of experience as a teacher’s assistant for a variety of age groups and dance disciplines. Now, she is thrilled to be able to help other students experience the magic of dance the way she did.

    Kate takes a holistic approach to artistic learning, incorporating and encouraging multidisciplinary thinking in the classroom. Standing on an academic background in history and spending close to twelve years involved in choral, orchestral, and theatrical performance, her teaching, choreography, and dancing reflect a broad education, which she loves to pass on to others. She is also a former specialty espresso barista and makes a mean cup of coffee.

  • Jessie Reid

    Jessie took her first yoga class in 1977 while attending college and immediately recognized its transformative powers. She has been actively practicing yoga and meditation for the last 28 years and teaching for 18. She is a KRI certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor and is registered nationally through Yoga Alliance {RYT 200 hours} She received her training at the Guru Ram Das Ashram in Millis, Ma under the guidance of master teachers Gurucharan Singh Khalsa and Hari Kaur Khalsa. Her classes combine movement and postures with breathwork, deep relaxation and meditation. They are geared towards stress release, strength, flexibility of both body and mind, and the uplifting of one’s spirits. As with all forms of yoga, Jessie’s classes teach self-awareness, which in turn helps students to better understand themselves.
